UCF Big 12 Challenge: Embracing the Journey of Growth

by | Oct 8, 2023

Every sports journey, like life, has its share of highs and lows. As UCF navigates the Big 12 challenge, my unwavering allegiance remains rooted. Here are some of my thoughts on how we can get passed this as a team and fan-base. Understanding that brighter days lie ahead.

As a reminder, we just joined the Big 12. Some fans thought we would dominate, others thought we would end 9-3, and others thought we would lose more than we would win. With that I think no one truly understood what this season had in state for us.

Defense Analysis, Missing in Action

Our main issue this season is our defensive struggle. Where is the defense? And this is no longer a secret, this echos prominently across the Big 12. Kansas State exposed us. And Baylor did the same, to do the best comeback in their school history. And Kansas doubled down on this running the ball down our throats for the whole game.

There are two main issues, scheme and players, maybe we need to play a better base defense, a 4-4 instead of our 4-2 base we play. But can we? We are missing our key players on defense, we don’t have linebackers! Where is our, Jeremiah Jean-Baptiste? or our Shaquem Griffin?

We need someone to step up and take control of this defense ASAP. While strategies and plays are essential, what’s imperative is an unwavering work. Shaquem was not the biggest or the strongest, but he had heart, and he made offensives pay!

Where is that?

The Road to Victory and Beyond

While we might not have the key players of the past, what we do need is to have some pride. Pride to win, Pride to play for UCF, Pride to bleed black and gold. In a world of the transfer portal and a “this place isn’t for me” mentality world, it might be to much to ask. But I am in search for that. In search for Soul! Passion! Pride!

Victory is more than just numbers on a scoreboard. It’s the heart, dedication, and relentless pursuit of excellence. As someone deeply entrenched in the UCF journey, I’ve seen its meteoric rise and believe in its boundless potential.

So who will step up?

Who will grow into the leader we need?

Who will bleed Black and Gold for this team?
